Does Perfectionism Have a Hold on You?

Someone who has helped me tremendously on this journey back to health is Dr. Brene Brown, renowned lecturer and author who speaks frequently about the effects of guilt, shame and fear on our lives. I think when it comes to weight loss, these three emotions play a huge role, whether we are aware of it or not.  But more on that later.

Although I have never met her personally, some days I feel like she is right here, whispering in my ear.  Her books and videos have helped quiet my inside voice, the one that frequently challenges my rational thoughts!  We all have it, whether it’s called your inner voice, your ego, your conscience, the trickster, the devils advocate, or a few I can’t really mention here in print. Learning to overcome that voice and follow my instinct, as well as learning to love and trust myself, has given me the courage and insight to tell my stories out loud. Scary indeed, but to share my fears when I feel like they’re holding me back, and to see my flaws when they are blocking my path to success, is both freeing and exhilarating.

I am far from perfect, and proud of it!!   I hope you take away a similar feeling and hear the message that Perfectionism doesn’t keep us from being hurt…. it keeps us from being seen. And I don’t know about you, but there are few feelings worse than the feeling of never being seen.
